Surrendering and Letting Go

The act of surrendering has always been a sign of weakness, belittlement and losing. It is the final let-down and/or giving up of any task or project. However, what we as humans fail to recognize is that surrendering is a way to move onto greater heights. When we surrender, we remember that we are at the core-human! We are meant to make mistakes, to cry, to feel sad and to hurt other people. Therefore, when we surrender-we ask the universe to do whatever it is to help us in our troubles. Famous daytime show host, Oprah Winfrey has been known to practice the act of surrendering. She understands that once we surrender, we allow ourselves to let go of all past/present hurts and pains, allowing a higher power to take care of whatever will should be done.

Similarly, letting go is also surrendering because when we let go, we allow others and things to grow and create their own destiny. Letting go can help oneself to realize other talents, hobbies and lifestyles that they never thought they obtained. For example, a fifty-eight-old woman once had a seventeen year old daughter who was going to an out-of-state college. When it came time for the daughter to move into the dorms, her mother had the toughest time letting go of her daughter. Then, as time went by, her mother began to feel a bit depressed and looked for different hobbies to pursue. After a couple of months, she began designing pottery jars again like she did in high school. To her delight, she was able to finally let go that her daughter was growing up and was brightening her future.

In essence, it is important to move on with our lives and to recognize when it's time to let go and move on.
