Being "Single"

Excerpt Courtesy of: Choices and Relationships, 8th Edition. Written by David Knox and Caroline Schacht

As much as I complain about homework/tests/quizzes, I actually do learn A LOT from reading my required textbooks. And today, while reading chapter 6 of my Sociology textbook (Choices in Relationships), I came across the most amazing excerpt about being single! Word for word, this excerpt just hit every point and it made me think that I'm not alone and there are actually young women and older women who want to experience learning and growing up by themselves. I think it is the most mature and selfless thing a woman or man can do (especially at my age) when they can admit to themselves that, yes-I am perfectly fine without a significant other and life just keeps moving and there's no regrets/if/and or but's--it's just being and doing what it is you are meant to do and be.

In my own opinion, I think that sometimes, the media and old traditions get in the way of growing up. I say that because we get so brainwashed to marry at a certain age and to have kids at a certain age, but we forget to learn about who we are as an individual-that we get caught up and rush into a new relationship or rush into a new career (that we necessarily did not think all the way through) just to meet that brainwashed standard.

But at the end of the day- every single person is different, everyone has got their own standards and their own goals. Being in a relationships, or being single is their own personal choice and it's ultimately up to the person on whichever makes them happy. If you are in a great relationship, then that's amazing and if you're single, that's amazing too! =D

As one magazine said, "Move forward, not back. And know that it’s better to be out there looking than stuck on a couch with some guy you’re just going to wind up dumping anyway. He might be happy, but you deserve more."

abundance and peace to all!
